What is Globalist Status?

World of Hyatt has a loyalty program, and it’s totally free to register. If you haven’t registered yet, then make a free account HERE. There are several levels to their awards program, and each level earns you different awards when you reach that level. Each level also comes with different benefits. Everything from late check out, room upgrades, resort fees waived, complimentary bottled water, bonus earnings, free parking, premium internet, and more!

For a full rundown of all four levels and benefits, check out the link here. The four levels and minimums to get to those levels are below, with some highlights. You earn those levels by qualifying for stay nights or earning base points. Base points are earned from spending you do at World of Hyatt locations. Qualifying nights can be earned from holding certain credit cards, staying at a hotel property, registering for a promotional offer, or spending a certain amount on a credit card.

By the time you reach Globalist status, you will have earned many different kinds of awards along the way that you can use and enjoy! Just make sure you pay attention to the expiration date on the awards. They do expire!

I reached Globalist by only staying 32 nights. I will show you several different options of how you can earn Hyatt status without staying all the nights or spending all the money, like you see above.

Why do I want Globalist Status with Hyatt?

Great question! I wondered the same thing. Why not just open a credit card with another hotel brand and earn their status automatically? You absolutely can do that! That being said, when it is so EASY to access status with a hotel brand, that means a lot of people will have it. While reading from other fellow travelers, it appears the upgrades are less frequent, and the status perks seem to be normal because anyone can get them by opening a credit card. World of Hyatt status has to be earned, and that makes it rarer and also allows those with the status to see a difference while staying at a World of Hyatt.

FREE Breakfast

Many of the value hotels, like Hyatt House or Hyatt Place, offer a free breakfast, but what about the other hotels that only have restaurants? With a Globalist status, you get a FREE breakfast. At check-in in the hotel clerk will tell you how much each person gets for breakfast and what restaurant to go to.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the Thompson Hotel in Denver, and we were given $40 each for the French restaurant in the hotel. We got lattes, entrees, and still had money to tip. Our bill was $80, and it was taken off our bill. Gourmet breakfast is completely FREE!

FREE Club Access

Certain Hyatt hotels have Club Access. This is earned by either booking a room with Club access, using a Club access award, or having Globalist status. This club is open throughout the day. Each club location is a little different, but it is open throughout the day. There will be a free breakfast, different snack hours, and appetizers before dinner. Many times we will fill up at the Club and just go out for dessert somewhere. Saving us more money!

FREE Valet Parking

Parking is something that does add up to your hotel stay. This is not something covered when you are staying at Hyatt hotels until you reach Globalist status. It is also valet parking, so make sure you have cash with you for the valet on duty. If valet parking isn’t available, which has happened to us on occasion, we were given 5,000 points to our Hyatt account for the inconvenience.

FREE Upgrade to Standard Suites (When available)

Now, this isn’t always a guarantee, but if there is a standard suite available, you could get a free upgrade. I would still advise emailing the hotel the week prior to your stay and including your Globalist status at that time to see how they can make your stay extra special. Be sure you check out my FREE upgrade room template to learn how to get upgrades with a simple email.

TIP: If I don’t email the hotel, I will ask at check-in if there are any possible suite upgrades available. Before checking in, I will look up our hotel and search for our current stay and see what rooms pop up as available for booking, and I will ask if that suite in particular is an option. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t, but remember it never hurts to ask.

My Hyatt Concierge

I’m still learning all the ways you can utilize your personal concierge, but here are a few I have learned along the way so far! When you become a Globalist, you will be paired with your personal concierge so you can email them directly with your Hyatt needs.

  • Book Hotel Reservations- You can let your concierge know the city you want to stay at and the desired hotels. They can book an award or cash stay for you.
  • Change Reservations- They are able to modify your reservation or add in awards for your stay.
  • Book services and reservations at the restaurants on the hotel property
  • Send awards to fellow Hyatt members
  • Book Free Night awards, Suite Upgrades
  • Assist with special needs for your stay

How do I reach Globalist Status?

Now that you have read all the amazing ways you get spoiled with a Globalist status, how do you get there? When you look at the award chart, it says you need 60 qualifying stays or 100,000 base points. Let’s break down which option is better for you: qualifying stays or base points.

Base Points

Base points are going to be the more expensive option because that is earned from money you spend at World of Hyatt during your stays. I would honestly say just ignore the base points, and let’s focus more on the qualifying nights.

Qualifying Nights

Now, to get to 60 night,s you don’t have to stay 60 hotel nights. Qualifying nights can be earned with your credit card, promos, or hotel stays.

Credit Card Earning Qualifying Nights

The World of Hyatt personal card gives you 5 qualifying nights towards your status every year. The World of Hyatt Business credit card gives you 5 qualifying nights towards your status for every $10,000 you spend on that card.

Promotions

World of Hyatt will run different promos where, if you stay at a certain hotel, then that hotel could count for more qualifying nights. Example: Last year, if you registered for the promotion and stayed at a Thompson hotel between certain dates, every night you stayed actually counted as 2 qualifying nights. So if you stay 2 night,s then you get 4 qualifying nights!

Hotel stays

Whether you pay cash for your stay or use points, every World of Hyatt stay will count towards your status. Just make sure you are booking through World of Hyatt directly. You can’t book a Hyatt hotel through a travel portal or search engine like Kayak or Booking.com. Your hotel stay won’t count as status unless you book directly through World of Hyatt.

You can get up to 60 qualifying nights using any of these three ways. So let’s talk about a few different strategies that could help you reach Globalist status.

Strategies For Earning Globalist Status

I am going to be covering all the different ways you can earn those qualifying nights to reach Globalist status. You can use a combination of all of these to reach the 60-night mark. Choose what works for you!

Earn Points for FREE Stays

There is only one kind of travel point that transfers to World of Hyatt, and that is Ultimate Rewards from Chase Bank. These points are extremely valuable in the Hyatt world, so if you want to reach that status, plan on opening Chase cards that are going to get you those flexible points so you can transfer them to World of Hyatt for your stays in the coming travel year. Remember to download the Travel Freely app to keep track of all your cards, fees, and points you have earned!

After you reach the minimum spend on your Chase credit cards, you will need to transfer to World of Hyatt, which you can do in your bank portal under Transfer Partners. You will then be able to book your award stays through World of Hyatt with ease. You can also rest easy knowing that if you decide to cancel your World of Hyatt hotel stay, your points will go back to your Hyatt account. Just make sure you look at when the cancellation window is, which will be located at the bottom of your hotel reservation.

If you want to earn large amounts of these Ultimate Reward Points, then check out the latest offers and decide which cards fit your travel needs and your budget. Don’t forget that you need to stay under 5/24 to get approved for these business credit cards.

Remember: Resort fees are waived when booking award stays with World of Hyatt, so you will save even more money on your World of Hyatt stays.

Book World of Hyatt Stays when Traveling

Whether you book cash or points, stays with World of Hyatt count towards your qualifying nights! If you are trying to hit that 60-night mark, then anytime you travel, you should consider a World of Hyatt property.

The World of Hyatt offers hotels for all budgets, from the Hyatt Place locations to luxury boutique hotels and even all-inclusive properties. Their hotel fingerprint is not as large as other hotel brands, but I will always look at World of Hyatt first before I branch out to other hotel groups. The World of Hyatt is adding more properties all the time, so don’t forget to check! Recently, they added a partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Smith properties and also The Venetian in Las Vegas.

Those hotel stays will add up, and if you pair that with one of the Hyatt promotions that is going on, you could earn extra points for future FREE hotel stays or your stay could earn you double qualifying nights or awards.

Utilizing World of Hyatt Credit Cards

Now I will say that these cards can be so very helpful when achieving the 60 qualifying nights, and I personally used both to reach my Globalist status this last year.

BUT…..before I got these cards, I actually made sure that I had plenty of flexible points from my favorite bank, which are the Ultimate Rewards (UR) first.

My best advice is to first go for the flexible points from Chase that can be transferred to World of Hyatt, and then open one or both of the World of Hyatt cards later on.

Player 2 Mode Tip: If you decide to open the World of Hyatt Personal card and utilize that yearly free night, I would open these cards closer together than you could use both free night certificates together every year for an easy weekend away using those free nights! These are for category 1-4 hotels.

Now let me show you how each World of Hyatt credit card could help you earn more qualifying nights to help you reach 60 nights and gain the amazing Globalist status!

World of Hyatt Personal Card

This card will help you earn Hyatt points for FREE stays. Check HERE for the most current offer from World of Hyatt.

You will earn a FREE night certificate every year on your card anniversary for Categories 1-4. Personally, worth the $95 annual fee!

If you book your Hyatt stays using this card, you will earn 4x the points and also earn base points. When checking into a Hyatt hotel stay, I will ALWAYS use one of my Hyatt cards as the hotel card on file. That way, any charges that occur while I am on the property will earn me more points to help me in the future. This is an example of MAXIMIZING POINTS.

This card also comes with 5 qualifying night credits, which means your 60 qualifying nights just bumped down to 55 qualifying nights just by opening this card!

Every $5,000 you spend on this card will also get you 2 qualifying nights towards your status as well. So if you plan on spending $15,000 on this card over the year, then you will be earning 6 qualifying nights.

This card can help you earn that status in many ways! Earning points towards free stays, getting a yearly free night, and qualifying nights by opening the card and by extra spending on the card. Grab this card offer to help you!

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card

The business card has a higher annual fee and differs from the personal card, so make sure you know the differences before applying. Check the latest offer HERE to see what the current card offer is.

The great thing about business credit cards is that it doesn’t affect your personal 5/24, so this is a great way to earn Hyatt perks without having to take up one of your personal card spots.

This card will earn you points as well, and the points earned on this card will also be linked to your personal World of Hyatt account, making this one less thing to worry about. If you have both a personal and a business credit card, all your Hyatt points go to the same account. Just make sure you input your Hyatt member number when filling out your application.

You don’t earn an annual free night with this card, but you do earn Hyatt credit! This card comes with $100 a year of Hyatt credit. It is split up into 6 months. If you have parking, eat lunch at the pool, order room service, etc, you will have a $50 credit every 6 months, and it will kick in on your credit card statement. An easy way to save $100, which brings the card’s annual fee down to $99 instead of $199, when thinking about the value you can get out of the annual fee. My thought is if I can get enough value out of the annual fee, I will keep the card, but the perks have to save me more money than the fee!

This card also earns you MORE qualifying nights with spend than your personal credit card. When you spend $10,000 on this card, you will earn 5 qualifying nights. If you spend the same amount on a personal credit card, you would only earn 4 qualifying nights. So if you have a big spend item, then consider putting it on this card to help you earn some qualifying points!

If you do spend $50,000 on the card during the year, you will earn a 10% points bonus back into your Hyatt account. This is a great card to use for big expenses that can bring great benefits!

You also earn double points on your top 3 spending categories, as your spending changes, so can your rewards, which is nice flexibility!

A combination of these two cards could help you earn points for your award travel stays, earn lots of points while staying at World of Hyatt properties, and earn you extra nights with spending on the card!

Utilizing Promotions

This is something a lot of people forget about! This could totally pay off, so check out the current promotions here on the World of Hyatt website. You do need to register them by putting in your World of Hyatt member number, and that is it. Once you register the promo, it will auto-activate if you use it!

Always register because you could end up using it and not realize it!

Some promos I have used in the past:

  • Stay 5 nights and get a suite upgrade
  • Stay at Thompson properties, and each night counts as 2 qualifying stays
  • Stay at Hyatt Place/Hyatt House properties and earn 3x the points, and remember that’s on top of the bonus you would get from your credit card, and add on status bonus earning too!
  • Stay at a new property and earn 500 points
  • Stay at Caribbean and Mexico locations and earn 3,000 points every 2 nights.

The promos can vary, and you might already have a stay booked when one of these promos becomes available, or maybe you change your hotel location so you can get more qualifying nights. The key is YOU HAVE TO REGISTER!

There will be other promotions and offers sent to you via email. American Airlines and World of Hyatt are partners, so they will send out promotions as well. You can link your World of Hyatt and American Airlines accounts for different promotions and benefits. Click here to link your World of Hyatt to AA.

Plan, Plan, Plan

I was consistently counting our stays and promotions to make sure we hit the 60 qualifying nights. I was going to make it right in December with our anniversary trip, but a last-minute promotion gave me the bump I needed, so I earned it in October during our Hawaii trip! You need to be intentional about your hotel stays and your plans for that year if you are trying to reach the status.

FAQs

How long do I earn Globalist status?

You have to earn all the qualifying nights in one calendar year. You earn the status for the remainder of the year you earned it, the following year, and into February of the next year. Example: I earned Globalist in October 2024. I had the status for the remainder of 2024 and will have it ALL of 2025. For the year 2026, my status will end in February.

So far in 2025, I have already earned 10 qualifying nights, and it’s only January! That is one hotel stay and my personal credit card qualifying nights! Will I hit 60 qualifying nights again this year? I am not sure yet, but I will enjoy being a Globalist status all of 2025.

Can I transfer qualifying nights from my spouse to my account?

No, you can’t both open a personal credit card and then transfer your qualifying nights to your spouse. You can transfer points and awards, like free night awards.

How do I transfer World of Hyatt points?

You can gift your points or awards to other Hyatt members. To gift points, you will need to fill out a form, and you can find that on the award page HERE. You can also call and gift a suite upgrade, a Guest of Honor, or a Free Night award.

Don’t forget to check out all the cards from my favorite bank that earn points that can all be transferred directly to World of Hyatt for your stays! This is huge in the plan for earning the higher-tier status levels.
